Prof. Dr. Maja Čemažar, a distinguished expert and member of the RadExIORSBoost project team, visited the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia from 31 March 2025 to 4 April 2025. She is the Head of the Research and Education Division at the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, Slovenia, the Head of the Department of Experimental Oncology, and a full professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Primorska. Prof. Čemažar’s main research interest is in the field of gene electrotransfer and gene therapy. She is the author of more than 350 scientific publications.
Prof. Čemažar delivered an insightful lecture titled “The emerging role of electroporation based therapies and their potential for combination with radiotherapy”. She presented the results of her team on electroporation, including in combination with irradiation, as well as electrochemotherapy, and gene electrotransfer in cancer treatment. The impressive and promising results from phase 1 clinical trial that tested the efficiency and safety of Interleukin-12 in the treatment of head and neck basal cell carcinoma were presented.
During her visit, prof. Čemažar shared her knowledge, expertise, and valuable experience in the scientific research and research management. She provided insights and valuable advices on strategies to enhance the IORS team research potential in radiobiology and to create scientific strategy. As the leader of the RadExIORSBoost work package dedicated to project dissemination, communication, and exploitation, Prof. Čemažar discussed approaches to increase the visibility of the RadExIORSBoost project team at both regional and international levels.
