The Fourth RadExIORSBoost Educational Seminar for cancer patients treated with radiotherapy

At the beginning of March, a month dedicated to the fight against cancer in Serbia, the RadExIORSBoost Horizon Europe project team welcomed cancer patients to the fourth educational seminar titled “Personalized approach in radiotherapy: From science to the clinic” at the new amphitheater of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS). The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Serbian Society for the Fight Against Cancer and the Working Group for Patient Support of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia.Patients from the IORS learned about the basic principles of modern radiation therapy, acute and late adverse reactions to radiotherapy, the important facts they need to know during their treatment, the significance of the psychological support for cancer patients, different activities and forms of patients’ support of the IORS Working Group for Patient Support, as well as about key biological factors underlying normal tissue reactions to radiotherapy. The patients had the opportunity to learn about the radiobiology research of the RadExIORSBoost project team and their efforts towards identifying possible predictors of radiosensitivity, which are essential to establishing a personalized radiotherapy approach in the future.The event ended with a discussion between the cancer patients and the lecturers, who addressed all the questions and concerns of the patients undergoing radiotherapy. The success of the seminar highlighted the benefits of attending educational events for the cancer patients.
