The second RadExIORSBoost project training titled “State of the art radiotherapy techniques and radiobiology research at the UMM” was successfully held on May 13-14, 2025, at the UMM. Members of the RadExIORSBoost project team from the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, and Medical University of Vienna visited the project team members from the Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University.
The training gathered 18 project team members.
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Prof. Dr. med. Frank Giordano, director of the Radiation Therapy and Radiation Oncology Clinic, provided valuable and inspiring insight into state-of-the-art radiotherapy techniques and major research and clinical studies conducted at the UMM. Prof. Dr. Marlon Veldwijk, Head of the Laboratory for Cellular and Molecular Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiation Oncology, delivered an excellent and insightful presentation on the projects and expertise of the CMROL team. The RadExIORSBoost team members from IORS, Dr. Ivana Matić, project’s leading researcher, and Dr. Nina Petrović, presented projects, expertise, and future research perspectives of the IORS team.
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, training participants had an opportunity to learn about RNA sequencing workflow and basic bioinformatic steps from Ahmad Šami. Prof. Dr. Veldwijk, RadExIORSBoost WP2 leader, delivered an inspiring presentation on 2D/3D microscopy and murine GBM models in cancer and radiobiology research. The RadExIORSBoost team members also enjoyed a visiting tour of the laboratories and the Radiation Oncology department.
This two-day training fostered deeper collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of AI-guided radiotherapy planning and cutting-edge approaches in radiobiology research at the UMM among project team members aligning with the project’s mission and vision.
