RadExIORSBoost Project Training “Genotoxicity testing in vitro and in humans” 25-26 June 2025, Center for Cancer Research, Medical University of Vienna

The RadExIORSBoost project is pleased to share details about the “Genotoxicity testing in vitro and in humans” training, which took place on June 25-26, 2025, at the Center for Cancer Research, Medical University of Vienna, Austria. The entire RadExIORSBoost project team, comprising members from all partner institutions including the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Medical University of Vienna, Institute of Oncology Ljubljana, and University of Leicester, actively participated.
This training, which focused on genotoxicity and investigation of DNA damage, was a crucial component of the comprehensive training program of the RadExIORSBoost project.

Key sessions on June  25 included:
* “An introduction to the Comet assay” by Miroslav Mišík
* “Human Intervention Studies: Strategies, Pitfalls and Key Considerations” by Franziska Ferk
* “How to write a scientific publication” by Siegfried Knasmueller
* An overview of “Genotoxicity and carcinogenicity studies” by Siegfried Knasmueller
* Discussions on “Micronucleus assays in vitro (OECD guideline #487)” by Miroslav Mišík and “Micronucleus experiments with humans” by Armen Nersesyan.
The second day, June 26, featured practical training and further discussions, led by Miroslav Mišík, Franziska Ferk, Gerald Timelthaler, and Aysan Yahya. Beyond the practical work, the team had the valuable opportunity to tour state-of-the-art microscopic equipment. Aysan Yahya also delivered a presentation on flow cytometry and the gamma H2AX assay.

This collaborative effort significantly contributes to our understanding of the molecular basis of radiation-induced effects
