RadExIORSBoost project hosts expert visit from Professor Talbot

The RadExIORSBoost project team from Serbia was pleased to host Dr. Chris Talbot, Professor of Radiotherapy Genetics in the Leicester Cancer Research Centre and Department of Genetics & Genome Biology at the University of Leicester, for an expert visit on December 5th and 6th, 2024.

Professor Talbot’s visit began on December 5th with meetings and discussions at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS). On December 6th, Professor Talbot shared his invaluable experience from the REQUITE and PRE-ACT projects, focusing on the use of AI in radiotherapy and the prediction of adverse effects following radiation therapy.

The lecture, entitled “Applying Genetics to Improve Radiotherapy,” was held in the Amphitheater of the National Library of Serbia and was well-attended and sparked engaging discussions among team members and colleagues from IORS.

His research focuses on the development of new methods to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy and reduce its side effects, and the association between circadian rhythms, time of radiotherapy, and response to radiation treatment. Professor Christopher Talbot is also a strong advocate for the use of AI in healthcare.

The REQUITE and PRE-ACT projects are two major international research initiatives that are investigating the use of AI in radiotherapy. Professor Christopher Talbot is a key member of both projects.
